Solidarity visit in Sheikh Jarrah

Generations for Peace, alongside Israeli activists, conducted a solidarity visit to the residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem, who are facing eviction from homes lived in for decades. The visit aimed to reaffirm the organization's support for the homeowners in Sheikh Jarrah and to condemn all attempts to evict them and transfer their homes to settlers as part of a broader policy of Judaization. During the tour, which started at the residence of the citizen and prominent activist against evictions, Saleh Diab, members of the association listened to the stories of the residents. They heard about the injustices and daily harassment they endured from settlers, often under police protection. Additionally, they visited the family of Fatima Salem, whose home is threatened with eviction and slated to be handed over to settlers. Despite the family having lived there since before 1967, before Israel's occupation and annexation of East Jerusalem. The family members spoke with deep sorrow about the extent of oppression and injustice they endured. It's not just the lack of necessary municipal services; they are also facing the threat of eviction from their homes where they have lived for decades. During the guided tour led by Israeli leftist activist Eyal Raz, members heard stories about the arrest of minors and their subsequent house arrest following recent protests defending their right. Generations For Peace calls on all parties to find a fair solution to the issue of Palestinian homes and residents, and to prevent the displacement of families for no reason other than being Palestinian in Jerusalem. The association considers the ongoing harassment, intimidation, and persecution of Palestinian residents by settlers a clear violation that must be stopped Furthermore, it is crucial to ensure the protection of Palestinian families and homeowners and to prevent the continuation of pressures on them, including suppression, intimidation, and harassment at all times, aimed at their eviction and displacement at any cost. After the tour, members and activists agreed to continue supporting and standing in solidarity with the residents of Sheikh Jarrah in their endeavor to uphold their just cause and remain in their homes
