GfP Women Visit to Support the Halak Family
Generations for Peace recently visited and offered support to the Halak family. This family tragically lost their only son, Iyad, in 2020 when he was shot and killed by an Israeli soldier in the Old City of Jerusalem. In 2023, the Israeli court issued a verdict acquitting the soldier who fired the fatal shots at Iyad. It is important to note that Iyad Halak was a young man with autism and posed no threat to the soldiers. He was on his way to attend classes when the incident occurred. Iyad's mother spoke to us, expressing that the court's decision racially targeted Iyad, effectively killing him for the second time. The entire family continues to struggle with profound psychological challenges following Iyad's death, exacerbated by the court's decision, which denied them justice for their son's killing. At Generations for Peace, we stand in solidarity with the Halak family. We believe that the only path to peace is to end the occupation.
